About us
Our history
The Belsize Community Library, built in 1937 by H.A. Gold and R. de W. Aldridge, is a rare example of an inter-war branch library. Recognised for its thoughtful design, open-plan layout, and elegant simplicity, it reflects some of the most progressive library planning ideas of its time.
In 2012, the Winch rescued the library from closure, preserving its historical significance while maintaining the beautiful space that has been a community cornerstone in Belsize Park for decades.
Friends of Belsize Community Library
Friends of Belsize Community Library was established in 1988 in order fight the closure of the library planned at the time. For many years the Friends have organised monthly events with speakers giving talks on literary, historical and cultural topics.
